It’s an invalid comparison. Almost no one uses SimpleDB, whereas almost every AppEngine app will use BigTable/GQL. They solve different problems. It’s like comparing MS Access to Oracle.
To the larger point that Google’s AppEngine is priced competitively with Amazon AWS… is that news? I don’t think so. It’s exactly what you would expect from Google.
