Elasticfox vs Jollat
By John | July 11, 2008
I noticed a new AWS tool for managing EC2 and S3 on the AWS blog called Jollat. I did a quick analysis of the differences between Jollat and ElasticFox and here is a quick list of the plus and minus’ of Jollat:
Plus:
- Nice filtering feature for managing images. You can filter by owner, location, and ID. You can also create favorites and filter by your favorites.
- Jollat has an explorer type navigator window which makes it nice for managing multiple AWS accounts.
- Jollat integrates S3 into the interface and seems to have a nice interface for bucket management.
Minus:
- Jollat is $66 dollars vs. Elasticfox being free. Also the Rightscale Dashboard is free and it has many of features of Jollat.
- Jollat is not browser based. This may be a nit but you have to launch Jollat as an application outside of your browser. Maybe I am just use to Easlticfox, but I like having Elasticfox as a Tab on Firefox.
- You cannot copy information from a running instance. This could be a pain. After an instance is started you might need to copy the URL or the instance ID of the running instance. I could not find a way to do this with the Jollet interface.
Bottom Line:
If you do a lot of work with multiple AWS accounts and need to filter between a lot of different EC2 images then the $66 is probably a good investment. However they need to get the copy feature in ASAP.

I tried finding the reference on pricing or licensing detail on the Jollat site.
Where did you got the $66 pricing. I am reluctant to download a piece of software when neither licensing nor “about us” information is available.

Good points. They really should say more about who they are and list the price.
After you install it and you start it up you get a message saying you have 30 days) to purchase. Then there is a purchase button.
