Thanks for the info. Telstra - Australia's biggest telco has just announced (on 17th August) a $500m investment into cloud computing which is pretty huge.

JMW,

Dude, I'm working on Botchanomics 2.0.

Anyone paying attention realizes that technology is enabling economic disruption on several levels; the question is where are you going to get on the wave.

The fact is with very little capex individuals with a tiny vision can broadcast a message like never before. IMHO opinion, this ubiquitous connectivity and the low barrier to entry enables the disruption at least as much as the fact I can bring up instances on ec2 for 0.10 an hour.

I'm not arguing with your response so much as pointing out what is 'cloud' enabled is often hazy at best. (pardon the pun)

But maybe in Botchanomics, it doesn't matter anyway, it's all about building your chocolate in my peanut butter cloud 2.0 narratives...

Cheers,
Andrew

Andrew, Andrew, my good friend Andrew....

Just because you have committed to risk your life on my behalf gives you no right to harass me with hard questions on a Monday morning... :)

I agree with you. However, my take away on this video is that the cloud gives a new type of startup an opportunity to get on a level-plus playing fiend with the B&M's. On the transparency it seems more like a way of doing business. The fact that everything the service is offering is not behind some kind of brick wall makes it much easier to make the process more transparent. In a B&M there are all these barriers (geography, network, political, ...). The cloud removes a lot of those sometimes artificial barriers. I also love the idea of services and clients interacting on the same infrastructure. In fact, he sauys at one point, the customer see what we see... That sounds like OSS in the clouds...

Having spent a good portion of my career working behind these walls I really did relate to this guy. You are also correct that the cloud doesn't specifically give a business a paperless venture. However, again it is easier to go that way with cloud storage and never look back.

Overall my biggest take away from this is something that my good friend Botchagalupe has been trying to say in ...

<a href="http://www.johnmwillis.com/opensource/botchanomics-and-the-big-galupe" rel="nofollow">Botchanomics and The Big Galupe</a>

Anyway, it makes for great debate....

Thanks

I have a vidcast on blip.tv. Let me know if that works. If not let me know what you would like to see. I am actually in the process of creating a better "introduction" version of that presentation.

I feel like this video is conflating several issues, most of which have little to do with ASP/Cloud Computing.

For example, all the talk about transparency, that's not really a cloud feature per se, IMHO that is a business decision, one way or another.

Also the DB talk at the end, going paperless is a choice that is independent of cloud strategy.

Maybe I just can't get past that he is pimping sharepoint... :/
