Mosso Outage Today - Keeping it Real
By John | March 5, 2008
This blog site was down for about 20 minutes today. It looks like Mosso lost a MySQL cluster this morning. That was not cool. Just keeping it real, I had Amazon EC2 for 90 days and I had zero outages. However, I am still a fan of Mosso due to their ability to handle spikes in traffic and their ease-of-use. If I was on EC2 last week my Apache and MySql servers would have crashed hard.
Hopefully this was an isolated glitch but I do have some concerns.
- I would like to be notified of a known outage. When I called support they immediately knew what the problem was. This should have been on my dashboard.
- I had asked the support rep to notify me when the cluster issue was resolved and that never happened.

They have a system status feed over at
http://status.mosso.com/mosso_system_status/
which I follow even though I’m not a customer yet. I’m looking to switch over to them in a couple of months and find it useful for getting a feel for how they perform.

Mosso too expensive? If anyone is interested in sharing the cost of Mosso with me, I’d be willing to set you up with one (or a few if needed) of the client accounts for a good price. Just need a few people to help offset my costs. I’m thinking $10 for me, plus the set fees at Mosso (for example, $5 for 100mb of MS SQL, etc). I can be flexible with price depending on what you’re looking for. I’m willing to set you up with unlimited email boxes and databases since they’re free anyway!
Please contact me at MossoReseller at gmail.com if you’re interested.
