P.S don’t hire me I am just a tivoli monitoring person. There are tons of skilled developers. I think the point is even non-developers can generate quaility services.

For larger instituions SOA is the perfect confusion project to generate a lot of hours for consulting companies.

If you have the skill internaly or someone who actually cares about getting SOA services out the door. SOA is done in days.

I built 10 services with Rational WebSphere Architect deployed them to WAS7 on i5/0S and never have to touch them again. For example, event management processor with 5 tables using JPA (Java Persistance Architecture) and EJB3.0 which is dynamically created by Rational. From Java database layer to the actual WSDL, 20 minutes.

Bottom line, if you want to bill hours, write alot, I mean alot of documention, make meetings, invite alot of people, form subcommities and make money and never finish.

If you have go getters you’ll get it done. Don’t hire. EDS, Accenture, or IBM. Or partners. Hire some guys who are really interested in the technology. If you are an enterprise developer you’ll love SOA.

I dunno… All I know is everyone I talk to is in the third year of a project that was supposed to be only 1. I know a local Utility company that invested full-boat in the IBM SOA dream and they are on their third consulting company (all recommended by IBM business partners) and they are worse off now then they were when they ran AS/400′s.

I also spoke with a chief SOA architect at AT&T trying to implement SOA and it sounded like a multi year plan. I am not sure 2009 is going to be the year that Greg (the architect) gets it done….

The link to information week is a joke.
If this guy actually coded a line a java he would know. SOA is not only alive it’s in full speed.

As a Tivoli Engineer, I used Rational Architecture to build a SOA applications in 20 minutes. Rational Architect codes SOA for you. I like the features for WAS7 JPA and EJB3.0 that makes is even more easier than RAD back in ’03. Rational for WebSphere Architect 7.5 is outstanding, can’t live with without it.

“Besides, I previously warned SOA enthusiasts that unless they paid more attention to their failure rates and stopped spending money like drunken sailors, there was a good possibility that either someone was going to take away their car keys — or they were headed for a fatal crash.”

This is the worst recommendation from information week ever read.
