Puppet, iLike and Infrastructure 2.0

Get 10-minute unattended build times from bare metal, most of which is data transfer. Puppet takes it the rest of the way, getting the machines ready to have applications deployed on them. It’s down to two-and-a-half minutes for Xen.

Puppet, iLike and Infrastructure 2.0

Maybe I should ask one more time: why are people paying in excess of $3 to $5 million a year for this kind of software? Services baby Services…

I took a stab at answering this question over at:

    http://blog.hjksolutions.com/articles/2007/08/31/why-are-people-paying-3-to-5-million-for-configuration-management-software

In short, I think it revolves around people not realizing they need configuration management until it’s too late. An outcropping of that is the belief that using it is hard, and that because of that difficulty you *should* have to pay millions in licensing and consulting fees to get there.
