Universal Avatars

IBM teams up with virtual world developer

IBM and Linden Lab, developer of Second Life, are joining forces to develop “universal avatars” that will allow users to move freely between virtual worlds as easily as they surf websites.

IMHO, this is the next big step in SNS. A person will jump into and out of social networks while being known by his or her avatar. IBM appears to be leading the charge here.
