JeHW – Just Enough Hardware, Its Time Has Come

By John | December 19, 2008

A few weeks back I posted a comment on @RUV‘s blog about my idea of JeHW.

I’ve always thought that making an on demand OLPC type image using Amazon could be something great for low income or emergining economies. In this case there is no OS … they just need to find a browser.  IMHO, the guys who can make a great JeHW instead of JeOS will be really on to something.

I have been thinking a lot about the idea of everything being in the cloud instead of trying to cram everything on to a small netbook.  Last Christmas I bought two OLPC laptops for my boys and the last thing I wanted was to become a system administrator for my childrens toys.  I have been wondering out loud on a few of my recent podcast why doesn’t someone just create a “One Cloud Per Child” and use a light netbook to connect.  In a recent IT Management Guys podcast “Whacky Predictions 2009” I rasied this question and Dave Rosenburg suggested it might be a little tough until they get all the software/driver issues sorted out (for example Wireless).

However, I was enougraed today when I noticed Stacey Higginbotham‘s blog post on “Cloud is ARM’s Secret Weapon Against Inte“.  I’m no expert on said subject, but I think we are getting a little bit closer and closer.
