OLPC – They Arrived Yesterday
By John | December 22, 2007
They shipped both of my OLPC laptops in one box. Last night, after the boys went to bed, I opened them up and did a little setup. The OLPC laptops don’t support WPA, so I had to set my wireless network back to WEP. Also, a few of my sons’ favorite websites did not work because I need Flash, which should be easy enough to install on Christmas day. I poked around a little, and the games are really cool. Pippy will be great for my nine-year-old. This morning, I wrapped them back up, and they are sitting under the tree waiting for Christmas morning.

John,
I helped my neighbor put one of these on his WPA network using the advice here:
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/WPA_Manual_Setting
It was not exactly as described there, but with a little futzing it does work.

Thanks. I’ll wait to after Christmas to try and change it back. I want to make sure I don’t screw it up until the kids have played with for a little while.

I just modified my router to be open and then used MAC filtering to limit access, as described in Putting your XO on the Web.
A Mr. John Willis, who seems to have an uncanny resemblance to you, posted some helpful comments to my posts.
thanks,

Thanks. I love what you are doing about the XO on your sites.
