The World is on Crack #4

By John | October 19, 2007

So, I am brought in by a “Big Four” to help close a deal for an OS monitoring and services gig. Then, at the end of the meeting the customer starts to rant about how he has already spent a half-million dollars on a network management tool that doesn’t work. Furthermore, he says that he is now told that it’s going to cost another million in more products and services to get it to work. Then, he turns to me and asks, in front of the “Big Four” reps, “Can you recommends an alternative network product?”

“Truth or Dare”

I have two choices. One, I can lie and toe the party line and keep my “Big Four” customer who provides 90 percent of all my business. Two, I can tell the guy about OpenNMS, which costs only $15K per year. What do you think I should have done?
