BotchagalupeMarks for April 1st – 09:19

These are my links for April 1st through April 2nd:
- My thoughts on Cloud Computing after the Cloud Computing Expo – thoughts in no particular order…
* Many of the vendors do not have a clear vision and are rushing to the cloud
* Microsoft’s Azure is so not ready for prime time
* There are not enough practitioners out there to tell us the truth about the cloud
* There is an amazing amount of FUD going around
* People are making blanket statements that are just not true
* David Linthicum is one of the few people on the cloud computing speaking circuit who is making sense - HP May Use Google Android For Netbooks (HPQ, GOOG) – HP may use Google's (GOOG) Android operating system for some of its mini laptop computers, or netbooks, the WSJ reports.
If it happens, this is a win for Google: Android has not taken off for cellphones as fast as the company would have liked, so any play it gets on netbooks and other computers is a bonus. (Perhaps it means HP will also build Android-based cellphones at some point?)
- Internap Cuts Costs, Lays Off 45 « Data Center Knowledge – Internap Network Services (INAP) said today that it will lay off 45 employees, or about 10 percent of its workforce. The job cuts are focused in back-office staff functions, but also include “the elimination of certain senior management positions.” Internap, which specializes in colocation and Internet routing services, says the move will save approximately $5 million in annualized operating expenses. The company expects to take a one-time restructuring charge of about $1.2 million, most of which will be recorded in the first quarter of 2009.
