- The Cloudy Wisdom of James Urquhart « Barton’s Blog – James Urquhart of Cisco and author of “The Wisdom of Clouds” blog on Cnet, gave a talk last week at Cloud World entitled, “Virtualization to Cloud.” I wanted to capture some of the topics he talked about and learn a bit more so I grabbed him for a podcast after he got off stage. Here is the result…
- Warehousing in the Clouds? Maybe Not Quite Yet | Blogs | ITBusinessEdge.com – To paraphrase the old Edwin Starr song: “The cloud, huh, what is it good for?”
While some may be tempted to reply “Absolutely Nothin,’” I tend to think the concept can bring a lot of value to IT, although probably not in any of the ways most backers envision right now.
- Appirio PS Enterprise: Moving Services Enterprises to the Cloud | CIO’s Guide to Cloud Computing and On-Demand | Appirio – Today is an exciting day for us. We're announcing our Professional Services Enterprise (PS Enterprise) product and introducing our PS Cloud blog. PS Enterprise is an on-demand professional service automation (PSA) solution, built entirely on Salesforce's force.com platform. Unlike competitive solutions that originated in the SMB space, our solution is designed from the ground up to meet the needs of enterprise-class service organizations, delivering end-to-end support for managing people, projects, customers and transactions. PS Enterprise is different from other solutions because it supports a services business end-to-end, bridging the gap between how projects are sold and how they are delivered.
- Rackspace Getting Ready To Take On Amazon | CloudAve – Rackspace, the erstwhile managed hosting provider who is pushing hard to be an open alternative to Amazon, Microsoft, etc., took a step towards putting some order in their ecosystem with the release of a new portal called Cloud Tools. Rackspace jumped into the Cloud game with an acquisition of a tool for their future ecosystem. They had Jungledisk from the start. With the release of their Open APIs, more companies joined their ecosystem. The greatest advantage of their APIs is the ease with which it can be integrated and a solid documentation support. One of the companies in the Amazon cloud ecosystem, Enstratus, recently joined the Rackspace ecosystem. After completing the integration, the CTO of Enstratus, George Reese, said the following about Rackspace API.
- Enterprises Embracing Cloud Computing, F5 Survey Says – In a survey conducted over the summer, F5 Networks found that enterprises are rapidly embracing the idea of both private and public clouds, with 99 percent saying they either had implemented compute clouds or were in discussions about it. About 80 percent said they had at least started trials of compute clouds. However, concerns over security, management and the definition of cloud computing could slow the rate of adoption, according to F5’s survey.
