BotchagalupeMarks for August 28th – 18:27
By John | August 30, 2009
These are my links for August 28th through August 29th:
- Citrix Aims To Cripple VMware’s Cloud Designs | Cloud Computing Journal – Citrix is going to try to bar VMware from getting its hooks deep in the cloud by developing the open source Xen hypervisor, already used by public clouds like Amazon, into a full-blown, cheaper, non-proprietary Xen Cloud Platform (XCP).
- The End of DNS As We Know It – When you start distributing services (workloads, applications) across multiple locations, a la cloud balancing, and those locations may change on a frequent basis you begin to run into problems with finding those services and scaling the rate of change effectively. DNS was designed to resolve host names, but never expected that the same host name might resolve to one of two, three, or four IP addresses all within the span of five minutes.
- Defining the cloud « Maney | Digital – I didn’t find this book at Amazon…but I very well could have. ”War and Peace” would have nothing on the size and weight of a book attempting to definitively answer the question: “What is cloud computing?”
- Getting My Feet Wet: The OpenNMS iPhone App – Tales of the Raccoon Fink – I've been spending some spare time working on an OpenNMS iPhone app, and things are coming along just great. As many of you know, I do a lot of work with porting various UNIX C/C++ applications to Mac OS X, but despite now having many years of practice doing such things, I actually have very little knowledge of writing C/C++ code from scratch.
