These are my links for July 25th through July 26th:
- Amazon Still Mum On Web Services Revenue – Plug Into The Cloud – InformationWeek – Of the $4.65 billion in revenue reported by the company, $140 million were within a category called "other." That includes revenue generated by Amazon's Enterprise Solutions Web hosting business, miscellaneous marketing and promotional activities such as co-branded credit cards, and Amazon Web Services. Amazon's "other" sales grew 11% in the quarter (or 15% with foreign exchange rates factored out), compared to the same period a year ago. Sequentially, "other" revenues rose 17% from the first quarter of the year.
- Amazon Web Services Secrets Revealed – Plug Into The Cloud – InformationWeek – Miller speculates that Amazon's northern Virginia data center will be used to support AWS customers in the federal government, and I'm sure that's right. Amazon recently held a two-day training session in Washington, D.C., for IT service firms that work with government agencies, and Amazon CTO Werner Vogels recently paid a visit to DARPA.
- Game Programming with Python, Lua, and Ruby | EShare | Free Ebooks Share – The use of high-level languages in game development has been on the rise for several years. This book serves as the ideal manual for those who wish to learn to program games using high-level languages. It presents sample scripts and programming in a simple, straightforward way, organized in a reference-friendly manner. Python, Ruby, and Lua are being used in game production at major companies (Disney, Humongous, and Bioware included). Some popular games using these languages include Alice, Impossible Creatures, and Baldur’s Gate. The CD will include all source code from the book, at least one complete open source game engine for each language, compilers for each program, the HAP debugger, the Twisted Framework, libraries, and plug ins.
