- Web meeting startup Dimdim goes big with Dimdim Webinar | VentureBeat – Dimdim, the startup taking on established web meeting providers with its low cost, open source meeting service, said today that it’s adding a service for webinars, big online events that could end up being quite lucrative for both the event host and Dimdim.
- Analyst Drools Over Rackspace (RAX) – Credit Suisse analyst Bryan McGrath loves Rackspace (RAX).
He called the Web-hosting firm "an early leader in the emerging market of cloud computing," and gave it an "outperform" rating in his first
- Terremark’s vCloud Express in Spotlight « Data Center Knowledge – Terremark (TMRK) was featured in the opening keynote of VMworld 2009 on Tuesday and VMware CEO Paul Maritz showcased its new vCloud Express, a service to create and host virtual machines on VMware vSphere. In this video from VMworld TV, Terremark’s Simon West discusses his company’s implementation of vCloud Express and gives a quick demo of setting up a virtual server. Users can launch a single server and pay by credit card, with rates starting at less than $1 a day. This video runs about 2 minutes, 30 seconds.
- William Vambenepe’s blog » Blog Archive » VMWare publishes (and submits) vCloud API – VMWare published its vCloud API yesterday (it was previously only available to a few partners) and submitted it to the DMTF, as had been previously announced. So much for my speculations involving IBM.
- VMware’s vCloud API Forces Cloud Standards | Cloudscaling – We’re in the midst of a monumental transformation of the IT space, namely cloud computing, and the transformation is stalled. Or, it was, until today when VMware released their vCloud API at VMworld under an extremely permissive license. A FAQ is here. So what’s the big deal you say?
- Opscode Blog: APT Repository for Chef – As mentioned in our announcement of Chef packages in Ubuntu's Karmic Koala release, we are working on getting Chef and its dependencies in various Debian and Ubuntu releases. We also said we would create an APT repository, and now following distribution releases are available:
- Opscode Blog: Chef 0.7.10 Release – Today I bring to you a tasty new release of Chef, courtesy of our Kallistec-lookin-flyfantastic MVP, Daniel (kallistec) DeLeo. Dan scoops the MVP for a snappy refactor, and some very cool in-progress SCM work which I'm sure we'll all see soon.
- dev2ops: delivering application change: Are sys admins soon to be relics? – One of the ideas that can be extrapolated from the positions of the "infrastructure as code" crowd, is that the future of systems administration will look dramatically different than it does today.*
- CouchDB on Ubuntu on AWS – till’s blog – Here's a little HowTo on how to setup CouchDB on an AWS EC2 instance. But outside of AWS (and EC2), this setup works on any other Ubuntu server, and I suppose Debian as well.
- The AWS EC2 Instance Missing Users Guide – When you get a new car you look into the glove box and find a small book that explains the day to day operation of the car. The same is true for your laptop.
