Top 10 Do’s and Dont’s in NYC
By John | March 28, 2008
Don’t eat at McDonalds when you are in NYC.- Do eat at Smith and Wollensky’s Bar and Grill Side (Ask for George we played in a Rock Band in High School together).
- Don’t ask subway attendants any questions; they will just stare at you.
- Do say, “Hi” to people when walking down the street. After the initial shock, surprisingly, they typically react positively.
- Don’t ask a cab driver to take you anywhere that doesn’t have a numbers in the name.
Do treat yourself to a Broadway play. Definitely Spamalot if you haven’t seen it yet.- Don’t – If the voices of you mom’s “There are kids starving in Africa” are still ringing in your ears – order a Pastrami on Rye at the Carnege Deli.
- Do take a moment to pop into MoMA to take a peek at Van Gogh’s Stary Night.
- Don’t try and get out of someone’s way when walking into a crowd. The natives are experts at this stuff and they will navigate around you. If you move around to avoid them, you will throw off their rhythm and hell breaks loose.
- Do bring duct tape because things will break.

Top Do Not Do Things in New York City
Best tip from native, raised, experienced, subway
passenger.
NEVER take the subway line when public school
lets out at 3pm. D train to the South Bronx,
leaving from Rockefeller Center.
Large number of young, tough kids/students,
some with handkerchiefs around their necks/mouths. Large
presence of police AT THAT TIME.
Gov’t stats show rise in number of ‘girl’ gangs
and higher dropout rate.
Long time ago, I saw couple tourists, with
glasses broken (prevents identification), bleeding.
Strange, why are police ALWAYS in pairs or threes
in the subways?
