NEVER take the subway line when public school lets out at 3pm. D train to the South Bronx, leaving from Rockefeller Center. Large number of young, tough kids/students, some with handkerchiefs around their necks/mouths. Large presence of police AT THAT TIME. Gov't stats show rise in number of 'girl' gangs and higher dropout rate. Long time ago, I saw couple tourists, with glasses broken (prevents identification), bleeding.
