Mercurial v GIT

By John | March 12, 2008

Interesting presentation tonight at the Ruby Meetup in Atlanta. The presenter says that GIT is the PERL of VCS and that Mercurial is the Python on VCS. It was also noted that all of SUN is using Mercurial.

Analysis:

This is not my area of expertise, so I wonder what some of you guys think.

I kind of like where you’re going with that, but where have you seen cases where git is faster than mercurial? I ask because in my tests, git has often come out behind.

    I haven’t retested lately, though:

    Dustin,

Good stuff. That is what one of the presenters last night said and I really don’t code enough these days to know. This post was really meant to help my small community educate me on the differences. Before last night I had not heard of Mercurial and I thought GIT was the only “new” game in town.

    Thanks
